Typically, online testing is conducted in an ‘unsupervised environment’ where applicants take the test remotely over web or mobile channels. In online testing environment there is no human invigilator present like during an on-site test.

This raises concerns related to Candidate integrity and Test integrity.
A third concern, which is applicable to both online and on-site tests, relates to the quality of the questions used in the assessment: Question integrity.

Candidate Integrity

The concerns related to candidate integrity are:

Impersonation

Cheating

‘Impersonation’ concerns relate to not knowing whether the person taking an online assessment is the same person who is applying for a job. Impersonation frauds are a major concern in recruitment testing, and there is a thriving mafia that offers services for a fee to weak candidates, in which an impersonator would appear for the online test on the behalf of the candidate.

Cheating’ concerns relate to not knowing whether the person taking the online test is cheating. Online tests are usually taken by candidates from remote locations, with no invigilation. The dishonest ones among them can cheat, for example, by referring to books or online resources for the right answers, or seek help from others.

Online Proctoring

EasyTalent provides comprehensive AI-enabled proctoring.

Candidates are monitored through facial recognition to detect impersonation, multiple-face detection to prevent collaborating with others for answers, and browser lock-down to prevent browsing the Internet for answers. Recruiters can choose to give a desired number of warnings - EasyTalent will warn the erring candidate that many times in case it detects non-compliance, and then automatically terminate the candidate's test.

EasyTalent comprehensively solves the concerns of candidate integrity.

To mitigate concerns related to impersonation, EasyTalent provides for Aadhaar KYC and two-factor biometric validations of candidates appearing of the online test.

To mitigate concerns of cheating during the online test, EasyTalent uses ‘Online Proctoring’, which captures the activity of the test takers during the test using the candidates’ webcam, which can be reviewed later by assessors.

Question sharing

Disconnection

‘Question sharing’ concerns relate to possibility of candidates who have completed their online test sharing the questions with other candidates who are yet to take the interview. This would give such candidates an unfair advantage of preparing for the questions beforehand.

‘Disconnection’ concerns in online tests relate to the candidate reading a question, then falsely disconnecting from the Internet, looking-up the answer, and reconnecting to answer the question.

EasyTalent comprehensively solves the concerns of test integrity.

To mitigate concerns related to question sharing, EasyTalent permits three delivery modes:

Fixed mode:

A fixed set of questions is created
During the online test, the same set of questions is presented to all candidates

Random Pool mode:

A pool of questions is created
During the online test each candidate is presented different questions selected randomly from the pool

Random Set mode:

Different sets of questions are created
During the online test candidates are presented a different set selected randomly

To mitigate concerns related to disconnection, EasyTalent provides feature of provisioning ‘alternate questions’:

In normal mode, if candidates get disconnected from the Internet, they can re-login into EasyTalent and continue their online test from the last question they were responding to when disconnection occurred.
If you create alternate questions, the candidate will be presented an alternate question, instead of the last question they were responding to when disconnection occurred.
The purpose of alternate questions is to prevent candidates who have seen a question, from disconnecting on their own, looking-up the answer off-line and re-logging in to answer the question.

Question distractor

Question difficulty concerns relate to the proportion of candidates who answered the item correctly. If this proportion (or p-value) is very high, the question may be very easy and may not be serving its purpose to test the candidates adequately.

Question discrimination concerns relate to how well a question is able to distinguish between candidates who are knowledgeable and those who are not. If the questions discrimination is low overall, the online test may not be able to filter the good from the average

Question distractor concerns relate to how effective the incorrect options (or distractors) of the question are. Ineffective distractors result in candidates being able to ‘guess’ the right answer.

EasyTalent comprehensively analyses questions to determine their integrity.

EasyTalent can be used to conduct a complete question analysis after the online test is conducted to understand the test questions’ difficulty index (p-value), discrimination index (point-biserial correlation) and distractor analysis.

Questions with very high p-value, and very low point-biserial correlation and distractor value would need to be changed or modified for use in subsequent online tests.
